Geshe Pema Dorjee School for Underprivileged Girls (Nepal)
Geshe Pema Dorjee School for Underprivileged Girls (Nepal)
The Sacred Stream has teamed up with Geshe Pema Dorje and buddhistcharity.org to support Geshe la’s latest project, a school for underprivileged girls. Located in a remote region of northeast India where girls often do not receive an education and have limited opportunities, this school provides housing, food, supplies, and a complete education for these young girls so they will have the chance of going to college and other opportunities for improving their futures. This school is housed in the Lungla Bodong Tashi Choeling Nunnery and run by the nuns there. Currently, there are 29 girls attending the school with one small building where they live and share meals together. The goal is to build a larger dormitory, and separate cafeteria, prayer hall, and library to support more girls in receiving an education. And as funds become available, we will build additional schools in other remote villages in Nepal and northern India. One hundred percent of your donation goes to the school and supports Geshe la’s efforts to create viable alternatives and hope for these young girls.

A Note from Isa Gucciardi, Founding Director of the Sacred Stream
I have known Geshe Pema Dorjee for many years. He is an erudite scholar, a learned linguist, a devout spiritual master, an able administrator. But most of all, he is the embodiment of what it is to be a true Father. With no children of his own, he has fathered thousands of kids. When the Tibetans established the Dharamsala Children’s Village in northern India after the Chinese invasion of Tibet orphaned thousands of children, he was chosen as the principal of the school. I have met scores of students from the school who are now adults that are devoted to him and honor him as their father.
As long as I have known Geshe la, he has been working tirelessly to help the poor and disenfranchised. In addition to the many larger organizations, he has built with the help of friends like you, he also takes on small projects too. He has been known to hike for over a week into remote areas of Nepal to bring supplies to villages in need. And I remember a phone conversation with him when he had to go because it was Friday night and he was in Katmandu where child trafficking is at its worst and he had gathered what funds he could find to rent a hotel room and bring as many children sleeping on the streets in for the night to avoid being exploited. There is no need too small or too large, he does his best to meet each one.
It is my sincerest wish to support Geshe la’s work in the world. Towards this end, the Sacred Stream co-sponsors his visits to and teachings in the US and we have created this page to receive funds on his behalf. The current project we are supporting that has the most need at this time is the Tashi Choeling Nunnery/School for Underprivileged Girls created to help young women and children. Every dollar received goes towards the building and running of this nunnery. I hope you will consider supporting Geshe la in his latest effort to create viable alternatives for people in desperate need. At this time, there is only one room for the nunnery. Further construction is needed, and the young women must be fed, clothed and educated. The long-term goal is to expand the school and start new ones as further resources become available. By making a monthly or one time donation towards this important project, you will give young women and children a chance at a better life and change countless lives for the better.
Thank you for your consideration.
