Strawberry Creek Watershed Project Placard Unveiling

Join us for this special free community event to celebrate the Strawberry Creek Watershed Project on June 23!

This community education project was born out of a desire to help offer the wider community a peek into the rich history of West Berkeley known as Poet’s Corner. Strawberry Creek is a year-round creek that flows from the Berkeley Hills to the San Francisco Bay. It has provided sustenance for the many plants and animals that thrived here for thousands of years. The neighborhood was once home to the Ohlone people who lived on the banks of the creek for at least 5000 years. The Sacred Stream Center is built near one of the many sacred shell mounds created by the Ohlone.

In collaboration with BASE Landscape Architecture and other community groups, we researched the history of the land and the creek, and are constructing a 36” by 24” informational placard, which will soon be affixed to the side of the Sacred Stream Center to generate more local awareness about this sacred site and its history. Join us for the unveiling of the placard and light reception – everyone is welcome!
