The Alchemy of Enlightenment: The Five Wisdoms
In this class, we discover the spirit of enlightenment in one of the most unlikely places: in the heart of negativity. We will work with the alchemical processes of the transmutation of the five poisons into the five wisdoms of Vajrayana Buddhism to learn how negative emotions such as anger and pride can be transmuted into different types of wisdom.
The Five Aggregates with Khensur Thupten Tenzin Rinpoche
The five aggregates are an important part of Buddhist philosophy that describe aspects of human experience. The Buddha first mentions the five aggregates in his famous discourse, “Setting in Motion the Wheel of the Dharma.” They are found in many important Buddhist teachings and are often used as tools for practicing mindfulness.
Advanced Buddhist Practice Instruction
This class is for students who have taken Applied Buddhist Psychology 1: Entering the Stream, Applied Buddhist Psychology 2: The Enlightened Mind, The Psychology of the Bodhisattva, The Alchemy of Enlightenment: The Five Wisdoms, and Advanced Meditations with the Paramitas. It offers them the opportunity to review all the lectures and meditations for those classes for six months while meeting with Isa once a month for Practice Instruction.
The Highway of the Conquerors: Teachings on the Mahamudra
The Mahamudra is a direct method for looking beyond our thoughts to the very nature of the mind. These teachings seek to reveal the heart of the mystery of our experience by offering different ways of understanding the mind, the self and nature of reality. In this class, this task is approached both conceptually and through meditation with the guidance of Khensur Rinpoche Thupten Tenzin. Geshe Thupten Jinpa will also provide an important lecture. Isa Gucciardi will assist with practice instruction.
The Psychology of the Bodhisattva
When we make the decision to dedicate ourselves to helping others, our priorities change. Although this decision can be made in an instant, the process of learning how and when to best help others can take longer than we might expect. Buddhist philosophy offers invaluable guidance regarding what it really takes to develop the capacity to truly be of service. This is called the Path of the Bodhisattva. This path provides invaluable insight and guidance not only about the nature of service but also how being of service deepens understanding of the basic teachings of Buddhist philosophy. In this course, we will explore the way in which our psychological orientation changes as we dedicate our self-development to the benefit of all.
Shamans and Siddhas: Meeting at the Crossroads of Shamanism & Tantrism
Robert Thurman and Isa Gucciardi lead this experiential exploration into the realms of shamanism and tantrism.
